My Teaching Philosophy

Whether teaching online or within a physical classroom, my teaching approach has consistently reflected my belief that educators should adapt their learning environments to the needs and styles of their students. Thus, my classroom tends to resemble a workshop-setting, whereby lectures are minimized, and instead, aspiring writers are encouraged to follow the writing process in a cyclical pattern to pre-write or brainstorm ideas, draft, and revise. My course design relies on collaborative learning, whereby helpful peer reviews are included, as well as my own deep analysis and feedback on an aspiring writer’s creative work.

Setting up a safe, creative, and encouraging workspace, demonstrates to the student that I am involved and care about their learning, which in turn helps to build their trust in me as a teacher, writing coach, and mentor.
